The UCOILD project team has produced several resources in addition to the COIL toolkit: (1) A mapping report on didactical knowledge, insights and challenges related to facilitating COIL projects. (2) COIL curriculum designs for sustainable integration of COIL projects into existing curriculum. (3) Articles reflecting on project insights. We hope these extra resources can inspire, and work as relevant input to the continued dialogue and development on strong didactics for future COIL projects worldwide.

In the mapping report, the UCOILD project team has explored best practices to create a baseline format for didactical supported COIL projects. The mapping report provides an overview of best practices based on a literature review of studies published between 2010 and 2021, outlining which didactical choices are made, which models applied, which challenges faced, and which lessons learnt when exploring Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) and Virtual Exchange (VE) (cojointly referred to as COIL). Also, this mapping report describes the results of five focus group interviews with experts from the partner institutions, regarding best practices of completed COILS within these institutions.

This project result will be published by December 2024

This systematic review examines pedagogical barriers and facilitators for intercultural learning in COIL projects, as well as their related outcomes. The article is published in Journal of Studies in International Education
